Living in the city of Bucharest - A winter encounter
School is cancelled, half of the city’s cars are under meters of snow and part of the public transportation is blocked. But somehow, the heavy winter is giving the city a well deserved break.
Bucharest is not unaccustomed with winter. On the contrary, it’s a city quite used to extremes, even when talking about temperatures — going from 40 degrees Celsius during summer to minus 20 during winter. However, its citizens haven’t seen such massive snowing in years.
While the majority of local Facebook posts and news are alarming and discontented, going out for a walk these days is surprisingly calming and enjoyable. Everything around is silent, everything around is happening at slow pace.
So, for a short time, Bucharesters, some of the most moldable people we know, turn from Latins to Scandinavians.
